Using Boom Cards with Schoology

Hey everyone! Big new over here. I started a Youtube channel!! Eek! I uploaded my first video and I'm super excited to see how this grows in the years to come. Thank you so much for you support! :)  One of my all time favorite tech tools is Boom Learning. If you've never heard of it, run and check it out! You won't be disappointed! I will be making a variety of "how to videos" for Boom Learning soon, but for now my first video shows how you can embed Boom Learning into your Schoology course for quick access. Check…

Google Keep Headers

Say goodbye to the days of a million sticky notes floating around with notes here and notes there. Google Keep is the PERFECT app for keeping all of your notes in one place! With Google Keep you can access your notes anywhere through the phone app or website by simply logging in to your google account. You can also share notes with family, friends, and coworkers to collaborate! Recently I discovered that you can upload an image in the Title section of your notes! This opened up so many opportunities for cuteness and organization, so I got busy designing titles…

Flipgrid Class Intros

Last year my partner teacher, Stephanie Ingvardsen, and I kicked off the year with Flipgrid Class Intros. We each started a new topic on our Flipgrid specifically for our intros and each recorded a video sharing a little bit about us, our families, and our favorite memory from summer. As soon as we got our class lists we shared the link with our students' parents and encouraged them to have their child also make a video introducing themselves. At meet the teacher we passed out little pieces of paper with the link as a reminder. This was such a fun…

Digital Attendance

Looking for a simple and fun way to take attendance? For many of us attendance is taken early in the morning when our Homeroom class is with their switch teacher. This means sending a student over to ask if anyone is absent which disrupts learning in both classes. Here's a simple way to avoid those distractions and take attendance right when students arrive. It's a win win! Simply project the Powerpoint on your Promethean Board or a laptop on your desk if you're using your Promethean Board for a morning message. When students come in they click their name, unpack…

EdPuzzle

Have you ever found a really great instructional video and think "This is PERFECT!" only to be shot down by your own sense of worry. Will it be engaging? Will my students actually pay attention? Will they learn anything from it? Or will it be more like..... My students have some favorite "YouTubers" that ignite gasps when they pop on the screen. They love watching them, but how can I be confident that they are taking away the important content embedded in the video? For Math We LOVE Math Antics! For Science We LOVE Crash Course Kids! Sometimes we watch…

Theme Inspired Choice Playlists

Do you ever see someone post an AMAZING idea on Twitter and you just want to run home and make some magic happen? A couple days ago my teammate Michelle Hood (4th Grade Math/Science teacher at Wells Elementary in Cy-Fair ISD) came running to me asking if I saw what Anna Fisher (1st Grade teacher at Wells Elementary in Cy-Fair ISD) had posted on her twitter. I hadn't a clue what she was talking about and was instant jaw dropping when I saw it. Anna Fisher and I had visited a few weeks back about using playlists in the classroom.…

Providing Choice and Differentiation Through Playlist Based Instruction

Have you been hearing teachers talk about the Playlists they are using in their classrooms? You may be thinking.... "Playlist? What is that?". I wasn't really sure either just a few months back but I was seeing it more and more so I was itching to find out what it was all about. Hailey Reinhardt (4th Grade Math Teacher at Leider Elementary in Cy-Fair ISD) was posting these so called playlists often so I reached out to find out more. She was so sweet and shared the one she was currently using. My team was so excited to dip our toes…
